Katy Perry wants to hook up with Calvin Harris to get revenge on Taylor Swift, according to a new tabloid report. Really? Allow Gossip Cop to separate the fact from the fiction.
The gossip media has long played up a rivalry between Perry and Swift. Now the new issue of OK! has a story about a new twist in their supposed feud. After noting Perry recently said her upcoming album isn’t a diss record aimed at “any one person,” the magazine asserts she actually has “something much more vengeful up her sleeve: A hookup with Taylor’s ex.”
Harris and Perry collaborated for his upcoming album. But the outlet now claims the pop star “wants to turn their flirty friendship into something much more.” A so-called “insider” tells the publication that the collaborators initially kept their dynamic “strictly professional,” but after Perry supposedly “brought up Taylor,” Harris was “more than happy to vent” about his former girlfriend.
And now that they’ve allegedly bonded over Swift being a “total fake,” the tabloid’s source maintains Perry wants to take things to the next level. In fact, it’s even asserted she’s thought for a long time that Harris was “sexy,” and always “planned to strike when the timing was right.” The magazine insists Perry is not motivated solely by “cold calculation,” but predicts “fireworks” nonetheless. The outlet’s “insider” further contends, “It’s icing on the cake for Katy that she can drop this bomb on Taylor. There’s only one goal for Katy now, and that’s for a romance with Calvin to go public.”
First off, no one knew Harris and Perry even collaborated until earlier this month when the EDM star unveiled the list of artists featured on his record. If the pop star was so set on hurting Swift through her connection to Harris, why wouldn’t she have flaunted teaming up with him sooner or even since then? Second, the idea of hooking up with Harris to get revenge on Swift is predicated on the notion she would actually be bothered by it. While the outlet’s “insider” claims Swift is “livid” the two are working together, she and Harris broke up nearly a year ago. Why should she care about Perry dating, in essence, her sloppy seconds?
Lastly, OK! has a horrendous track record when it comes to accurately reporting on Perry’s love life. In 2015, the tabloid was actually forced to apologize to Perry for falsely claiming she was pregnant with John Mayer’s baby. And last August, the magazine ran a cover story wrongly alleging Perry was getting engaged to Orlando Bloom. It’s hard to fathom the outlet being so wrong with those Mayer and Bloom tales, but suddenly right when it comes to Harris.
Naturally, though, lemmings like HollywoodLife have already picked up this article about a revenge hookup without spending any time fact-checking it. Gossip Cop, however, looked into what was real and what was fake. It is fact that Perry and Harris collaborated. It’s also true that their dynamic was “strictly professional.” What’s fiction is everything else. Gossip Cop is told it’s untrue Perry has any intention of embarking on a romance with Harris for revenge or otherwise. “It was about the music, that’s it,” says our contact.
